James Wallace Cooke Biographical Sketch, . 1898

James Wallace Cooke (1812-1869) was a United States and Confederate naval officer of Beaufort, N.C. The collection is a biographical sketch of James Wallace Cooke covering his career in the United States Navy and his Confederate naval service at the Battle of Roanoke Island, N.C., and as captain of the C.S.S. Albemarle. According to the accompanying letter, the sketch was written by John D. Davis, Beaufort, N.C., for General Clement A. Evans, Atlanta, Ga.
